Ecological Research Center - Organizational Philosophy

Established in 1992, the Ecological Research Center is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to promoting international cooperation and supporting environmental conservation initiatives.
Our headquarters is located in Aomori Prefecture, home to Japan's only nuclear fuel recycling facility. From this strategic base, we coordinate a wide range of activities across multiple domestic and international locations.
In the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant disaster, we applied our organization's specialized technical expertise to provide both educational training in decontamination methods and direct operational support on-site.
Our activities have since expanded beyond Japan to include projects in the United States, China, and the Philippines, reflecting our commitment to addressing environmental challenges on a global scale.
With "decontamination and reuse" as our core mission, we continue to advance a variety of ecological initiatives across different regions.
Guided by exceptional technology and a deep commitment to human-centered solutions, we remain dedicated to making a global impact and striving toward even greater achievements in the years ahead.

*Chairperson, Age 79

At the age of 65, he closed down his own business.
Leveraging his hands-on experience, he launched a business focused on corporate rehabilitation often referred to as 'salvage' operations. And by accepting one company each year, he has successfully revitalized nine companies so far.
During the course of his business endeavors, he recognized the limitations and unreliability of conventional credit assessments conducted by commercial credit agencies. In response, he expanded his activities to include comprehensive corporate investigation services.
From a young age, he demonstrated a strong interest in intellectual property and has since obtained multiple patents for various types of industrial machinery.
He has also gained substantial experience in responding to environmental contamination caused by natural disasters. To address such challenges, he founded an NGO and has personally visited affected sites, engaging directly in numerous complex field operations.
Leveraging this extensive and diverse background, he is currently undertaking a new project one that would typically be considered unfeasible under normal circumstances.
The project centers on concerns that an abandoned factory may pose a threat to the marine environment of a coastal town known for its scallop industry. In order to mitigate this risk, he successfully persuaded fellow board members to support the launch of a comprehensive initiative combining site decontamination with a new business-driven factory revitalization plan, which is now actively in progress.
His forward-thinking mindset and unwavering energy continue to drive innovation. Even at the age of 79, his commitment and vigor remain undiminished, and he remains fully active in his professional role.
*Technical Management Advisor, Age 47

He is the registered legal owner of all real estate properties associated with the NGO, including three material storage sites and the site of the current scallop shell waste processing project, which involves the demolition of the former facility and construction of an environmentally friendly intermediate treatment plant.
This arrangement is due to the legal status of NGOs in Japan, which, as non-governmental organizations, are not permitted to hold real estate assets in their name. As a result, ownership and property tax responsibilities are borne by individual board members on behalf of the organization.
All related costs and responsibilities for these properties are collectively shouldered by the NGO's board of directors.
After graduating from a technical high school with a focus in electronics, he defied school advice and entered a university of technology through the admissions office (AO) entrance system. However, during the winter break of his second year, he was forced to withdraw from university due to the sudden downturn in his father's company, which required his involvement.
Since then, for over 20 years, he has gained extensive hands on experience in the demolition of chemical plants and various industrial structures.
He holds numerous professional certifications, including Chemical Substance Manager, Designated Chemical Substance Manager, and Instructor for Dioxin and PCB Handling, among many others.
Utilizing these credentials, he independently manages all phases of fieldwork from planning and execution to on-site supervision.
He is currently unmarried. His hobby is cycling, and he takes on the Mt. Iwaki hill climb challenge every year.He is also, incidentally, seeking a lifelong partner.

At age 50, he was transferred to the Tokyo headquarters. After retiring at 60, he continued to work under a reemployment contract until the age of 65.
During his time at Fujitsu, he was involved in various systems engineering (SE) tasks across core sectors such as manufacturing, distribution, public services, and finance from business negotiations to implementation and maintenance.
